Final team lists for Gothenburg NEVZA Beach 2022 revised

The number of teams registered to participate in this year’s second NEVZA Beach Volleyball tournament was overwhelming. 26 Women’s and 29 Men’s teams were competing for the 16 Main Draw spots for each gender. When the confirmed list of teams in the Main Draw was released last Thursday, it was clear that only one Danish team and three Swedish wildcard teams were in the Main Draw with zero FIVB ranking points. In an attempt to try and compensate for the number of teams registered in the event, the organizers have sent a new application asking CEV and FIVB to increase the number of teams in the Main Draw. This application has been approved and the new confirmed list of teams in the Main Draw is now published.

The first weekend in November, with Halloween and All Saint’s Day, is traditionally a huge beach volleyball happening in Gothenburg. Sweden’s largest volleyball club, with the world’s largest indoor hall, organizes Halloween Cup. Fortunately for NEVZA (Northern Europe Volleyball Zonal Association) and its top national beach volleyball players, they are able to make room for the traditional NEVZA Beach Sweden Tournament from the 4th – 6th November.

The number of treams registered for the event resulted in the need to investigate the possibility of increasing the number of participating teams in the Main Draw to 24 for each gender. After several deliberations and attempts  to implement this change, it unfortunately turned out not being possible due to organizational and logistical challenges. There was a decision made, by NEVZA and the organizers, to not stop with this result and to try and find other options to enable more teams to participate in the Main Draw. Together, these 2 organizations, continued to work hard at finding a solution. Their efforts have paid off. An application for a modified event with 20 teams in the Main Draw followed by single elimination was submitted to CEV and FIVB for approval. This format is not defined by CEV’s and FIVB’s regulations and does not exist as a template in the VIS program. However, all of the organizations involved have looked positively upon this application and have made the necessary adjustments in order to approve the application.

What has been approved is an agreement to keep the confirrme list of teams that was published on Friday 21 October. The Main Draw will be supplemented by the first four (4) teams on the Reserve List for men and the first two (2) teams fior women. The final two (2) teams for women will be drawn from the list of teams with zero (0) FIVB ranking points (DEN, FIN, NOR, SWE) that have been ranked as the 1st seeded team by their respective National Federation. The final and updated confirmed list of teams is now available on the CEV website. NEVZA wishes to thank the organizers for their endeavors at finding a solution that gives so many teams a chance to compete internationally.

Gothenburg can look forward to top performances during the NEVZA Beach 2022 indoor tournament on 4th – 6th November 2022. 20 Men’s and 20 Women’s teams from Denmark, England, Finland, Norway and host country Sweden will fight for the 1 500 € prize money (per gender).

All matches will be streamed live. Links to the match schedule and live streaming will be published on nevza.org during next week.
